Get your Smile Back for Summer with Dental Implants

Posted on 5/10/2015 by Dr. Wagle

A diagram of a patients lower jaw with a dental implant inside the patients gums. As the weather warms up most of us start preparing ourselves for looking our best for the summer. We all start hitting the gym after January 1 trying to lose all the weight we promised ourselves we would. We spend months exercising and dieting just so we don't embarrass ourselves in a pair of shorts or a bathing suit. It's a great time to consider a new hairstyle too.

Something with a little more bounce to it or something that can be tied up and kept out of the way. While we are at it, let's work on getting a bit of color so we don't look like ghosts out there. There are many things we can do to try and look our best for this fun time of the year. We'll get facials, make sure we have pedicures for our sandals and get those legs waxed. That covers almost everything. But, have you ever considered what you can do with your smile?

Have you lost your Smile?
Maybe you don't feel you have much reason to show your smile to the world. You couldn't be more wrong. Summer is the time of barbeques and picnics. Many high school and college reunions also happen in the summer. It's a time for a great vacation. Don't you want to show your personality by flashing that smile? Are you concerned that maybe your smile isn't what is used to be? Are you missing some teeth? Do you have cracked or decaying teeth? It's ok, it's not too late to do something about it.

What can you Do?
The secret of having a great smile isn't such a secret anymore. Dental implants work wonders in replacing missing or decaying teeth. Now, I know what you're thinking, "Isn't that expensive and doesn't it take a long time to do?" Getting implants isn't the cheapest thing to do for yourself, but it's one of the best things you can do. The initial outlay may be more than you want to spend but they last forever. As for the time issue, didn't you start working on your weight in January? Why not start the implant process too? By the time summer comes around you'll be all set! Just imagine walking up to that old high school crush and dazzling him with that irresistible smile of yours.

What exactly is a Dental Implant?

An implant is a manufactured tooth that is attached to a post that has been implanted right into the bone of your jaw. It might sound painful, but there are pain meds and Novocain that make the process more comfortable than you could imagine. The post will be implanted into the bone of your jaw or a bone graft that has been put in, to strengthen the bone in preparation for the implant. This is what takes the most time. The graft needs time to heal and fuse to your jaw.

The tooth part of the implant will look just like your other teeth. The size will match as will the color. This tooth will not discolor nor will it get cavities. It's like a bionic tooth. No one needs to know about the implant unless you decide to spill the beans.

Considering an implant isn't a small thing like the changing of a hairstyle. It's not as easy as going shopping for a new pair of sandals to show off your newly pedicured feet. It's a process that takes time and a bit of money. But taking care of your mouth by getting an implant can be a change that can alter how you look at yourself. It will give you the confidence to go out there this summer and be yourself. Don't worry about hiding that smile because you're embarrassed by any dental flaws. Flash those pearly whites for all to see.
